Picking the Right Linens for Your Wedding

Austin, TX

It’s almost Spring, and with spring comes engagements, culminating in summer weddings and receptions. With so much to plan for and think about, it’s easy to just skip over something as basic as the linens. But if it’s to be your perfect day, you want all the details perfect, so why not start planning your linens now?

Start With The Tables

Though we are talking about linens, the tables on which they sit are just as important. You will need to decide what kind and how many tables you need before you choose your linens.

Let your guest list help you in determining the size and shape of your tables. You may only need small circular tables for a smaller wedding reception and more intimate setting, or perhaps you’ll want or need the larger, rectangular tables to accommodate a host of family and friends. Once you’ve nailed down the table type and shape, determine how much fabric you’ll want, if you want it drooping low, used with a padding, and so on. Be prepared with the answers to all these questions as you go about picking your linens.

Prioritize Your Colors

Soon, couples everywhere will eagerly begin planning for their own special day, hoping to make it perfect. Wedding themes can change, as do the colors, and seasons in which they occur. One of the constants is table linens, and picking the wrong linens can have a negative impact on your reception. Make it a priority to begin your linen planning well in advance of your wedding to avoid disappointment later when rushing to finalize plans.

If you’re at a loss on where to begin, you can start with the colors and let the seasons be your guide:

  • Summer weddings and receptions typically will have bright-colored linens with a neutral linen to balance it all out. Some brides skip the neutral color and opt to go with all bright colors.
  • Spring weddings are a great time to use pastels and fresh color tones to match with the fresh new season.
  • Autumn weddings look great dressed in the more classic fall colors such as rich gold and deep burgundy.
  • Winter weddings, while not as common, look great with colors like midnight blue and black, or cranberry red and forest green.

Sticking to the seasons to help determine colors is popular, but choosing a trendy color and style is also an option. Theme weddings have their place as well. Whatever color you choose, be mindful of the lighting conditions at your wedding and reception venue, as the amount of light can affect what your tables will look like.
